10-day Dasara festival begins at famous Durga temple

The 10-day long Dasara festival began here today at the famous Kanaka Durga temple, atop the Indrakeeladri hill.The presiding deity, goddess Durga appeared as “Sri Swarnakavachalankritha Kanaka Durga Devi” on the first day of the Dasara festival, on the auspicious occasion of “Aasviyuj Suddha Padyam”.

The temple priests performed ‘Snapanabhishekam’, ‘Ganapati Puja’ and other traditional rituals to the deity on the occasion. The temple, atop the hill, opened for the darshan of goddess at around 9 am.

Water Resources Management Minister Devineni Umameshwara Rao went to the temple through general queue from Vinajaya temple, located in canal road. He observed the facilities, arrangement for the common devotees.

He had darshan of Durga and offered prayers at the temple. Later talking to media at the temple, the Minister said security arrangements had been made by deploying 5,200 police personal.

The common devotees, who come in general queue line, would be treated as VIPs and all facilities were in place for them.He said the facilities at the temple for devotees would be reviewed time to time.

The minister said that on the most auspicious day of Moola Nakshtram on September 27, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu along with his wife Bhabaneswari would offer silk robes to the goddess and offer prayers at the temple.

A large number of devotees thronged the temple in the wee hours itself and formed long queues to have darshan of goddess Durga. City Police Commissioner Gautham Sawang was among those who had darshan this morning.
