Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said that ten thousand new LPG distributors will be appointed in the current financial year.
Pradhan said besides increasing production in refineries, the government is taking other steps to increase availability of LPG for consumers.
The Minister is overseeing the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on the 1st of May in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh to launch Ujjwala Yojana.
This ambitious scheme will provide five crore free LPG connections to BPL families using the money saved from 1.13 crore cooking gas users voluntarily giving up their subsidies.
The Minister said, initially one and half crore women of poor families will be provided free of cost LPG connection under the Prime Minister Ujjwala Yozana. He said during the next three years five crore poor women will be covered under the scheme.
Pradhan said Prime Minster Narendra Modi will launch the scheme at Balia on coming May day. He said Under the scheme one LPG connection with one cylinder and regulator and connecting pipe will be provided.
Budgetary allotment of two thousand crore rupees has been made in union budget for 2016-17. Sri Pradhan said the objective of the scheme is to make every poor house hold free of smoke. He said 61 percent families in country are having LPG connection, while in Uttar Pradesh it is only 53 percent.
