As many as 3,055 spotted deer were sighted by the forest personnel inside the Bhitarkanika forest during the three day mammal census which concluded on November 23 last.
Ranger of Kanika Forest Range Akhaya Kumar Nayak said besides the spotted deer, 513 wild boar, 11 sambar deer, 723 common langur, 305 jackle were also spotted by the forest personnel during the census.
The other mammal sighted by the census team included, 3 fishing cat, 21 otter, 28 fox, 21 hyena and 19 porcupines, Nayak said.
The mammal census was carried out during the monsoon bird census from November 21 to November 23.
