33 people lost their lives and scores were injured in thunderstorm and heavy rains that hit several parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
At least 11 people killed and over 15 injured in thunderstorm and hailstorm in Bihar Tuesday . Most of the casualties were reported from Muzaffarpur and Lakhisarai.
The thunderstorm accompanied by a strong wind and rain lashed almost throughout the state. AIR correspondent reports that it came close on the heels of high intensity tremors on Saturday and Sunday that had left residents in a state of utter panic.
In Uttar Pradesh, at least 22 people were killed and over two dozen injured in thunderstorm, lightening and heavy rains that hit several parts of the state yesterday. Four persons were killed in Etah district, three in Rae Bareli, two each died in Azamgarh, Lucknow, Ballia, Pratapgarh, Allahabad and Amethi, and one each in Jaunpur, Mau and Hardoi.
A high level meeting was convened Tuesday by State Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan in Lucknow to review the situation .
The crop loss has compounded the problems of farmers due to earlier spells of unseasonal rain. The government has announced an ex gratia of seven lakh Rupees each to the kin of the deceased. While administration has been asked to provide all possible help to the victims of rain and thunderstorm
