A suspected Al Qaeda terrorist was arrested from the Paschim Kaccha village around five km from Jagatpur in Odishas Cuttack districtOn Wednesday.
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate of Police Commissioner R P Sharma told mediapersons here that Md Abdul Rahman (37), a member of the Al Qaeda India Sub Continent, a fling group of the Al Qaeda, was arrested from his house during a raid at midnight last night.
The raid was conducted by a team consisting of police personnel of the Commissionerate of Police, Special squad of the Jagatpur Police station, Officers of Delhi Police Special cell and other police personnel during midnight last night.
The team, Sharma said, was led by Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrat Bhoi and Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora.
Sharma said a mobile handset, a tablet and the passport of Rahman were seized by the police during the raid.
He said the raid was conducted on the basis of the information provided by Delhi Special cell.
Rahman would be produced before a court in Salipur and would be taken to Delhi on transit remand for further interrogation.
Sharma said Rahman is married and has three children. His elder brother Tahir Ali was arrested in 2001 in connection with an attack on the US Consul office at Kolkata.
Rahman has his education in a Madrasa and then did his Phd in Arabic and Hades from Deobandh University in Uttar Pradesh.
He is suspected to have been working as facilitator among various terrorist organisations after the formation of the Al Qaeda Sub Continent India in September 2014 and in the recruitment of people for the organisation.
Abdul is also involved in imparting education in a Madrasa under Tangi Police station where students from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka are studying.
He is also suspected to have international links with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Dubai and people of the Indian Subcontinent region residing in London. He has visited Dubai twice.
During the joint operation by Delhi police and Commissionerate Police, the 37-year-old suspect was picked up from his house in the wee hours today
The Delhi police has registered a case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against some criminals having suspected links with Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.

The suspected terrorists mobile phone and his bank account transactions were under the scanner for quite some time.
The police have kept the suspected terrorist in an undisclosed location and interrogating him.
Sources said a team of over 30 police personnel including Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora and other senior officials raided Rahmans house late yesterday night.
Major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad have been put on high alert after intelligence inputs that Al Qaeda was planning attacks on public places, tourist spots, iconic buildings, and places of worship in these cities.
