Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday said strong action would be taken against the divisive forces creating discord and violence in the name of religion and bringing misery to the peace loving people of the state.
After reviewing the situation in the riot hit Bhadrak town at the Bhadrak collectorate, Mr Patnaik said all accused persons responsible for the violent incidents will be punished as per law.
Among others Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, D G K B Singh, Revenue Divisional Commissioner A B Ota and the District Collector and the SP were present at the review meeting .
Patnaik assured to pay full compensation to the people affected in the communal violence.
“Wherever damage has been done, full compensation will be paid to the affected people,” the Chief Minister said adding that vending zones will be set up to rehabilitate affected shopkeepers in the town.
He visited the worst violence hit areas of Apartibindha, Chandan Bazar ,Old town areas, Kadamba bedha and Kacheri Bazar areas of the town amid tight security and interacted with the affected people.
The chief minister directed the officials to assess damages caused during the riot within three days.
Meanwhile, the situation in the Bhadrak town was gradually limping back to normalcy. The residents of the town have heaved a sigh of relief as the buses from the town to rural areas started plying.
Educational institutions, banks, offices , hospitals, markets which were closed due to the riot were opened today.
The Curfew was relaxed today from 0700 to 1600 hours and re imposed again from 1600 to 0700hours tomorrow. The restriction on the use of internet imposed by the district authority has been lifted since last evening.
Sources said the deployment of forces would continue till the next week to prevent any untoward incident.Police have arrested more than one hundred persons in connection with the violence so far.
Meanwhile, Cyber cell of the crime branch was interrogating five people on the allegation of posting objectionable materials in the social media against the Hindu Gods and Goddess which led to riot and communal tension in the town
Odisha Congress chief Prasad Harichandan and senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnai also today visited the riot hit areas of the town , interacted with the people and appealed to the residents of the Bhadrak town to restore peace and maintain communal harmony.
