All three ruling BJD candidate to be elected to Rajya Sabha from Odisha

13 March, Bhubaneswar

Nomination papers of all the three ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidates for election to three Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha were found valid after scrutiny on Tuesday.

Returning Officer Patil Rajesh Prabhakar said the nomination papers of BJD candidate- Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Achyuta Samanta and Prashanta Nanda were found to be valid.

The nomination of independent candidate Subash Mohapatra was rejected due to lack of proposers in support of his candidature.

All the three BJD candidates will be now elected to the Rajya as neither the BJP nor the Congress have fielded any candidate for the election.

The election was necessitated as the tenure of BJD Rajya Sabha members-A U Singh Deo, Dillip Tirkey and BJD supported Independent Member A V Swami is expiring next month.
