Days after its launch, government’s online payments app Bharat Interface for Mobile, BHIM has become the most popular Android app in the country. The app is topping the charts on Google’s Play Store in India.
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said, since the launch the app was downloaded in 3 million times. He said, over 5 lakh transactions took place since the launch of BHIM App.
Kant has also announced that the app will soon be available on iOS platform as well. Presently the app is only available to download through Google Play Store on Android smartphones.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the app on Friday. Modi had said that the BHIM app will empower the poorest of the poor and it is for the small merchant, farmers in far-flung areas, tribals. Aadhaar-based payments are expected to be added to the app in the coming weeks.
