Odisha Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced that his party would look after the family members of Dileswar Sahu, who died at the SCB Medical College and hospital at Cuttack on Friday night Dileswar, a driver, sustained critical injuries along with three others including State Labour Minister’s brother Subrat Singh in a murderous attack by some armed miscreants at Banabira village in Sohela block of Baragarh district on Thursday night on the concluding day of campaign for the by election to Bijepur Assembly seat.
Dleswar, who was first admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Burla later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
He however, succumbed to his injuries a few hours after he was admitted to SCB medical college and hospital.
Paying his last tribute to Dileswar Sahu at the state Party office here Mr Patnaik expressed his profound grief and condoled the death of Dileswar.
The chief minister said he was deeply distressed by the tragic death of Dileswar Sahu who is survived by his wife and two small children.
Mr Patnaik said it is a very heinous crime in the peace loving state of Odisha. The people of the state would give a befitting reply to the criminal.
The Chief Minister announced that the BJD would bear the educational expenses of the children of the deceased and look after his family members.
Mr Patnaik said such a barbaric act cannot be tolerated and the state government would take stern action against the people involved in the incident.
Police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
BJD alleged that the BJP was behind the attack and one of the accused arrested by Police is a BJP leader.
BJD leader and Parliament Member Prasanna Acharya alleged that the BJP had committed the crime apprehending defeat in the Bijepur by election.
But the BJP leaders denied the allegation and said their party do not believe in violence.
BJP MLA Pradip Purohit expressed his grief over the death and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident to nab the persons involved in the crime.
He also demanded to bring senior BJD leader Prasana Acharya and state Labour Minister Sushant Singh under the purview of the inquiry.
