Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday staged a protest outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence at Civil lines, demanding State Transport Minister Gopal Rai’s resignation over the alleged auto-rickshaw permit scam.
Talking to mediapersons during the agitation outside the Chief Minister’s residence, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, “Kejriwal government is so much into corruption that they are even fooling their biggest supporters, the auto-drivers.
Earlier, corruption in transport department was due to middlemen, but now AAP volunteers and MLAs are doing that.”We had requested Lieutenant Governer Najeeb Jung to seek a report from the transport department on the issue and the investigation should be handed over to the anti-corruption branch,” he said.
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside Kejriwal’s residence and raised slogans against irregularities over the issuance of licence for new auto-rickshaws. Police had to resort to water cannons to disperse the protestors.”They had earlier announced issuance of 10,000 auto permits. After this, around 17,000 applications were received and that is where the corruption started. If Arvind Kejriwal is against corruption why he is not sacking his minister,” BJP leader Harish Bhadana said while talking to the media.
Last week, Delhi government suspended its three senior officials from transport department over alleged irregularities in the distribution of Letter of Intent (LOIs) for new auto-rickshaws.The three officials – Deputy Commissioner (auto rickshaw unit) S Roy Biswas, inspector Manish Puri, and a clerk Anil Yadav – were placed under suspension with immediate effect after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister.
