Hitting back at Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who said she is not scared of anyone as she is daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi, the BJP Tuesday said the law is above the ‘Bahu-Damad’ influence, indicating towards her son-in-law Robert Vadra who is facing probe in a land acquisition case.
As an agitated Congress disrupted the proceedings in Parliament with both the Houses coming to grinding halt, BJP fielded its senior minister, an eminent lawyer, Ravi Shankar Prasad to launch a counter offensive, who reminded the Congress that ”this is 2015 and not 1976 and Sonia is not Indira”.
He was reacting to Ms Gandhi’s assertions that she is not afraid of anyone as she is the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi.
The ruling and the Opposition find themselves locked in a battle inside and outside Parliament, a day after the Delhi High Court stunned the Congress by dismissing pleas challenging the summoning of its president and vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
Quoting the court orders, Prasad told reporters that the Congress was not talking about the case itself, in which the government has ‘remotely no role to play’.
Giving a brief about the court case, Prasad said after failing in its cover-up attempts, the Congress was now trying to settle scores in Parliament.
“Instead of stalling Parliament, Rahul Gandhi should defend himself in the court,” he said.
