Protesting against the large scale violence by the ruling BJD workers during the five hour hartal today across the state, the youth wing of the BJP will gherao the SP offices tomorrow. BJP Youth wing president Tankadhar Tripathy told newsmen here today that the BJP activists will gherao all the SP offices across the state to lodge protest against the violence let loose by the ruling BJD workers during the hartal Monday.
The BJD had called for a five hour hartal from 0700 to 1200 hours today to protest against the hike of fuel prices. The BJP leader said during the hartal the ruling party activists attacked and damaged vehicles, assaulted the common man and did not even spare the women and the patients.
said a woman journalist was manhandled by the BJD activists in the capital city.The ruling party supporters had blocked all most all the busy junction of the capital city and did not allow the vehicles to move in the city. The BJP leader said the police were the mute spectator to the violence and did nothing to prevent the BJD workers assaulting the common man.
Meanwhile, BJD vice president and senior leader Debi Prasad Mishra said neither the BJD nor its president Naveen Patnaik support any kind of violence.
He said it was an outburst of the public who were hit by the steep rising of petrol and diesel in the last few months. The party claimed that despite a drastic fall in the prices of crude oil in the international market, the Modi government has allowed the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
The party has announced that it would continue the agitation till the Centre reduce the prices of the petroleum products.
