The 23rd edition of the Kolkata International FilmFestival (KIFF) was kicked off this evening in vintage musical style byBollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
Bachchan inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Thousands of film lovers gathered to attend the glittering ceremony hereat the Netaji Indoor Stadium where they were left mesmerised by thepresence of Amitabh Bachchan, actors-cum-brand ambassador of thestate Shah Rukh, Khan, Kamal Hassan, Kajol, Mahesh Bhatt, and famousBritish director Michael Winterbottom and a galaxy of film celebrities,national and international delegates and eminent personalities of allwalks of life, which was presided over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The eight-day-long festival organised by state government will screen143 films from 53 countries under 16 different categories till November17.
Iranian film Yellow has been selected as the opening film. The United Kingdom as the focus country in the 23rd edition of theKolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) All through the eight days, films will be shown at 12 auditoria Nandan1, 2 and 3, Rabindra Sadan, Sisir Mancha, Navina Cinema, Star Theatre,Mitra Cinema, Inox at Salt Lake City Centre 1 Mall, Purbashree Auditoriumat Salt Lake EZCC, Nazrul Tirtha and PVR Mani Square.
