Congress Tuesday reiterated that filing the case against its president Sonia Gandhi and her deputy Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald issue is political vendetta by the ruling BJP.
“This is nothing but political vendetta, we have seen it in a series of cases, from Virbhadra Singh during wedding ceremony of his daughter to Chidambaram and to many other examples,” party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.
“This has been filed directly by a BJP member(read Mr Subramaniam Swamy),-both the party he belongs to and himself have a long history of personal antagonism”, he said on the Congress Twitter page.
However, about the present case, he said “We have an unassailable extremely strong case”. “We believe the case(filed by Swamy) has no legs to stand upon and we shall fight it within the confines of the law”, Singhvi added.
The summons were issued by a local Delhi court about one and a half years ago against Gandhi(s) and other on a criminal complaint lodged by Swamy for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring ownership of now-defunct daily National Herald.
The two Congress leaders than filed petition before the Delhi High Court against the summoning which had stayed the lower court’s order.
However, Monday the High Court rejected the petition filed by the two leaders and vacated the stay on trial court’s summons. The Congress has decided to challenge the High Court order in the Supreme Court.
