A debt-ridden farmer has committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh after jumping from a mobile tower Friday .
The deceased, Yogendra Kumar, a resident of Rasulpur Danthala village of Meerut District, was in debt as he had taken money from private lenders. His family has been given two lakh rupees as immediate assistance from the Chief Minister’s fund.
Meanwhile, a Magisterial inquiry by Deputy District Magistrate has been ordered.
According to preliminary investigation, Kumar had cultivated five bigha of land out of which crop on 3 bigha land was damaged in the recent unseasonal rain. Kumar had taken about three to four lakh rupees as loan from private lenders in the village.
Earlier, District Collector had said that the farmer was demanding government’s assistance. The incident comes days after a farmer committed suicide in Aam Aadmi Party’s rally at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
