Demonstrators set ablaze two vehicles at Parimpora on Srinagar-Baramulla road for defying strike called by separatists, demanding right to self determination.Official sources said that a group of demonstrators stopped two passenger vehicles at Paimpora in the downtown city and set ablaze them after allowing passengers to go.The vehicles suffered massive damage.
Recently, two cars were also set on fire by some unidentified persons at Hyderpora on Srinagar-Airport road. For the past about a week private vehicles, particularly two-wheelers besides three-wheelers were seen plying on different city routes, including uptown and civil lines.
However, passenger vehicles remained off the roads across the valley. Both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag, have already extended the strike till October 20.
However, the separatists had announced relaxation from 1700 hrs to 0700 hrs next morning. The separatists, had yesterday, appealed to local mohalla and masjid committees to collect donation from people for transporters who were the worst hit during the strike since July 9. Meanwhile, a number of social and religious organisations have urged transporters to approach them for any financial help.
