Election Commission has expressed its satisfaction over the poll preparedness in Gujarat for coming Assembly elections.
Addressing the press Conference at Ahmedabad this evening after the review of poll preparations in the state, Chief Election Commissioner A. K. Joti said that Assembly elections in Gujarat are expected to be held during the second half of December 2017.
Joti said that during the last two days, Election Commission received several suggestions from the representatives of political parties for holding free and fair elections in the state. He said that as the elections will be held with VVPAT – EVMs, some political parties have also demanded to rationalize the time of polling.
He said that many political parties have sought to put check on misuse of money power during election period and pre-election period. He said, several parties have also demanded to set up a single window clearance for permission of public rally.
The Chief Election Commissioner said, revision of Electoral rolls has been completed in the state and as on 25th September 2017, total 4 crore 33 lakh eligible voters including 2.07 crore women were on records in the state.
Joti said, total 50,128 polling stations will be set up to facilitate the voters.
He said, polling stations will be set up in a manner that no voter has to go beyond 2 kilo meters to cast his/her vote. He said that one all women managed polling station will be set up in every constituency in the state.
