Election Commission will hear both the groups of Samajwadi Party over the dispute regarding party’s ‘Cycle’ symbol on January 13.”The hearing is fixed for Friday,” the sources said Tuesday.
Both the groups of the party–Mulayam Singh Yadav faction and Akhilesh Yadav faction are staking their claim on the party’s symbol ‘Cycle’.
Mulayam Singh Yadav went to the Election Commission yesterday with documentary proof of the faction led by him of enjoying the support of the majority of legislators, and he was followed by the rival Akhilesh camp with Prof Gopal visiting the Commission to file the rival claim to the party name and the symbol ‘Cycle’.
The Election Commission has to take a decision on the ‘Cycle’ symbol before the poll notification for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which is going to be issued on January 17.The state will go to the polls in seven phases between February 11 and March 8.
