The Enforcement Directorate Wednesday made a search operation in the Chennai office of Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P.Chidambaram.
The details of the search operations were not revealed by the sleuths of the investigating agency. However, Karti has confirmed the search, saying it was in relation to the financial transactions of three private firms.
He has said two of the companies under the ED scanner are known to him as owned by his friends, and the third one is unknown to him.
He says neither he nor his family members are directors of the firms, adding, they do not own any shares of them.
Recently, the ED and Income Tax officials conducted joint search operations in the premises of a consulting agency which was alleged to have links with him, a charge he has denied.
Its two directors were earlier summoned by the ED for inquiry into a case of money laundering, related to the Aircel-Maxis deal. The other company that is being investigated is known to be a private hospital chain based in Tamil Nadu.
