Ex-Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra gets bail

Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra on Friday got four weeks’ provisional bail on health grounds, officials said.

According to his lawyer, Mishra had moved the bail petition in the Jharkhand High Court. After four weeks, he will have to surrender.

Mishra had surrendered before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court to serve his sentence in a multi- million fodder scam case on February 5.

He was convicted and awarded five years’ sentence on January 24. He had not appeared before the court on that day.

The court had issued a warrant against him.

Mishra, along with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, also a former Bihar Chief Minister, was convicted and awarded five years’ imprisonment in a case related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in 1992-1993.

This was second case in which Mishra was convicted and it was third case in which Lalu was convicted in the fodder scam case.
