Making the announcement about VAT reduction on petrol and diesel today, Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, the revised rates will be applicable from midnight tonight.
This comes as a huge relief for the people in the state with petrol prices close to 80 rupees per litre.
The decision by the Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra government comes after Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged states to reduce VAT on fuel to bring down prices.
Earlier today, the Gujarat government also announced reduction in VAT on fuel by 4 percent bringing down the prices of petrol and diesel.
