Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the idea of a yatra or pilgrimage existed as an integral part of the Indian culture. He said, through yatra people get acquainted with various parts of the country they may never have seen otherwise.
Addressing a programme to mark the inauguration of Umiya Dham Ashram at Haridwar through video conferencing, Modi said, tourism can be a new concept and definition for the world, but in India Yatra is part of life.
Modi said, Our ancestors developed the concept of circuit tourism long ago through char dham yatra, dwadash jyotirling yatra etc. He said, the Ashram being inaugurated today will benefit the pilgrims coming to Haridwar.
He said, the work being done by devotees of Maa Umiya has touched the lives of several people and they have also spread awareness on gender equality.
The Prime Minister appealed to all devotees attached with Umiya Dham Ashram to become Swachhagrahis and add strength to the Swachh Bharat Mission.
He also urged them to be a part of plantation drive for afforestation. Expressing concern over drug addiction among youth, Modi appealed to the devotees for creating an environment which keeps the young generation away from drugs.
