Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Thursday said that India is moving fast towards urbanisation for which there is a need for large scale infrastructure.
Jaitley said, it is a challenge for all of us and organised township and construction will pave the way in achieving this.
Addressing the two day Forum on the theme of Promoting Sustainable Urbanization in Asia Pacific in New Delhi, Jaitley said, large part of the resources will have to be spent on urbanisation and the concept of Smart Cities is a step in that direction.
The minister said, Clean India Campaign is integral to urbanisation process in the country. Mr Jaitley said, today more than 31 per cent of population lives in the urban areas and over the next two decades the figure will substantially increase.
He said, urban centres have become an engine of growth in the country and the Centre and states have to take important steps to move forward in that direction.
