Justice Naidu Commission Submits Report On Kandhamal Violence

Justice A S Naidu Commission inquiring into killing of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati followed by communal violence in Kandhamal district in Odisha Tuesday submitted its final report to the State government.

After submitting the report to Home Secretary, the Secretary to the Commission A K Patnaik told media persons in Bhubaneswar that during the investigation, a total of 825 affidavits were filed while 300 persons deposed before the Commission as witnesses.

The Commission has compiled the final report in two volumes with a total of 1020 pages. On August 23, 2008, Laxmananda Saraswati and four of his aides were killed at his ashram at Jaleshpata in Kandhamal district.

The killing had triggered communal violence in Kandhamal in which at least 38 people were killed. Justice Naidu was appointed by the government to conduct the inquiry in 2012 after the death of Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra who earlier conducted the inquiry.
