The mascot and logo for the 12th South Asian Games, to be held in Assam-Meghalaya from February 6-16 next year, was launched here Sunday.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and Union MoS (Independent) for Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal were present on the occasion.
Mr Sonowal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the Games.
Mr Gogoi, in his speech, said the governments and agencies will work together to ensure success of the Games.
The logo and mascot were launched at a function held here under the aegis of Organising Committee of the Games in presence of Meghalayas sports minister Zenith Sangma among other dignitaries.
The logo has eight petals representing the countries participating in the 12th South Asian Games. The petals are seen to be moving in a clockwise direction showing the positive spirit of the games.
The name of the Mascot for the Games is rhino calf, ‘Tikhor’.
Tikhor is someone who is sharp, naughty, sporty and modern. He is all-rounder, active, energetic and popular among kids.
The mascot draped in a red T-shirts, sky blue shorts and a prominent horn resembles a calf of the one-horned rhinoceros, the state animal of Assam.
It has been designed by Anant Khasbardar of Kolhapur.
Abhijeet Krishna of NIFT, Patna, designed the logo.
A popular number of late Dr Bhupen Hazarika — Ei prithivi ekhon krirangon, krira hol shantir prangon (The world is a field of sports and sports is a symbol of peace) — will be the title song of the event.
The South Asian Games that are being held in Assam and Meghalaya for the first time, will have particpants from eight countries and there will be 23 events in the games. Delhi will last for 10 days. Assam Agriculture Minister Rakibul Hussain, Sports Minisiter Ajit Singh, Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, president Indian Olympic Association N Ramachandran, Secretary, Sports Govt of India Rajib Yadav and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
