Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today directed Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma to constitute a special team to look out for the missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mr Singh said, “Spoke to CP Delhi regarding the incident of JNU student gone missing. I have instructed him to constitute a special team to look out for him.”
JNU vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar also urged the students to suspend their agitation assuring protesting students that the administration was fully cooperating with the police in tracing Ahmed.
Ahmed, a student of School of Biotechnology, had been missing since October 15 after an altercation with some ABVP students at the Mahi-Mandavi hostel.
The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to Ahmed to return and resume his academic activities without fear stating that a fair inquiry has been initiated.
Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told media persons that the university administration was doing what it has to do and gheraoing the Vice-Chancellor and other officials was sad.
Meanwhile, the police have also put up posters in the campus announcing a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone giving clue about Ahmed.
