Mulayam stakes claim with EC for Party’s poll symbol “Cycle”; Postpones party’s Thursday convention

02 January, New Delhi

Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav met Election Commission this evening in New Delhi to stake claim over party election symbol.

Yadav was accompanied by his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh and Jaya Prada. Mulayam Singh Yadav is learnt to have discussed with the Commission that his faction being the real Samajwadi Party should be allowed to use the bicycle symbol.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was yesterday made National President of the party at a specially convened convention at Lucknow, while his father was declared patron. However, Mulayam Singh Yadav called this convention unconstitutional and nullified its proceedings.

In another development, he also postponed the January 5 emergency convention called by him yesterday. No fresh date has been announced for the convention.
