Mumbai court issues non-bailable warrant against Zakir Naik in money-laundering case

13 April, Mumbai

Mumbai’s special court has issued a non-bailable warrant against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in connection with a money laundering case.

Enforcement Directorate had moved the PMLA court on Monday seeking non-bailable warrant against Naik; as he had not joined the investigation so far.

Although ED had repeatedly summoned Naik, he has failed to appear before it.

The ED is looking into the charges of alleged illegal funds laundered by Naik and the subsequent proceeds of crime thus generated. ED had registered a criminal case against Naik and others last December after taking cognisance of an NIA complaint under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

51 year old Naik; founder of Islamic Research Foundation has been charged for his alleged involvement in radicalising Muslim youth and luring them into terror activities.
