Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday called upon the Senior Police Officers to raise the standards of policing to match global bench mark.
Lauding the role of Police at the valedictory session of the senior Police Officers conference here, Mr Patnaik said Odisha is fast emerging as a top destination of international investors because of stable law and order situation.
He said Bhubaneswar is regarded as safe and smart city internationally and the Police deserves due credit for such distinctions and achievements.
Police, the chief minister said must be people-friendly with attitude to serve people and assured to take care of resource constraints to make it pro-people and efficient.
On this occasion, Patnaik released a book “Crime in Odisha 2016” prepared by the state Crime Record Bureau and inaugurated the Mobile App “SAHAYATA” developed by it for the benefit of common citizens.
Odisha DGP R P Sharma said Police have made rapid progress and there is hardly any area where Odisha Police has not made substantial progress in last two decades.
The DGP said there is an urgent need to increase the strength of Civil Police.
Emphasizing on security for women Dr Sharma said Investigation Unit on crime against women have been made operational in 29 Districts and all heinous cases against women are to be treated as Red Flag Case.
The chief minister awarded the district Superintendent of Police of Bhadrak, Angul, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh for their excellent performance in various fields like implementation of CCTNS programme, providing services to people though Odisha Police Citizen Portal, destruction of cannabis plant in the state.BM
