03 October, Bhubaneswar

The Odisha unit of BJP will launch a state wide agitation against the Percentage Commission (PC) culture and rampant corruption in the state during the last 17 years rule of the BJD government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The state executive committee of the party which met here today decided to launch the agitation from October 12 to 18 in 1001 wards across the state.

BJP State General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan told newspersons after the meeting that the party would launch the movement against widespread corruption from the bottom to the top level for the rights and justice of the Odia youths.

He alleged that a lion’s share of the central assistance for various welfare programmes is going to the pockets of the BJD workers and leaders in the form of percentage commission (PC). The BJP leader said recently the state Contractor Association has made serious allegation regarding the PC system prevalent in the government work .The CAG ,he said, has also in its report indicated about rampant corruption in work which has been widely highlighted in the media.

Harichandan said the chief minister himself while addressing the district collectors conference had admitted about PC culture in the government work with a warning that such practice should be stopped immediately. But the irony is that despite Patnaik’s directives the prevalence of PC was rampant in Works and Water Resources department held by the chief minister himself. The recent collapse of bridges and fly over executed by the government is a clear example of the PC system.

Harichandan said in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the BJD government was forcing the poor to pay bribe and the people are not getting benefits like old age, widow and handicapped pensions, death and birth certificates, caste certificate, land documents and crop loan without paying bribe.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Tribal Welfare Minister Juel Oram and  Arun Singh, party in charge of Odisha attended the meeting.
