Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced to provide free sanitary napkins to all the 17 lakh girl students of class sixth to 12th studying in government and government aided schools under a new scheme called ”KHUSHI.”
Making the announcement, Patnaik said the government would also expand social marketing of social napkins for girls and women in the community at subsidized rate.
The Chief Minister hoped that the initiative would go a long way in promoting health and hygiene among school going adolescent girls leading to higher retention in schools and greater empowerment of women.
Patnaik said his government is always committed to the empowerment of women. From Mission Shakti to Mamata to 50 per cent reservation-wmen have been the focal point of the state government’s all key interventions.BM
