Odisha government is contemplating to enact an Act before the coming Kharif season which could protect the interest of both the land owners and the share croppers.
State Revenue Minister Bijayshree Routray Monday told mediapersons after an interministerial committee here that the proposed act would be formulated after taking the opinion of the people and arriving at a consensus. The Act , he said ,would not be imposed on them.
The Minister said the need for enacting the law arose as various schemes and benefits announced by the government such as compensation for crop loss, crop insurance was not reaching the share croppers directly.
Routray said the government would take the opinion of at least 50 people in random from one third region of the total tehsil areas of the state in next 15 days.
He said after the receipts of the opinions the interministerial committee on share croppers would take a decision within a week.
Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are going to implement the Act shortly, Routray said adding that the state government would also study the provisions of the Act before enacting its own law.
