14 December, New Delhi
Coast Guard DIG Loshali has been sacked from its service for his remarks which contradicted government’s stand over the explosion of a Pakistani boat off the coast of Gujarat on 31st December last year.
The decision has been taken following the Coast Guard Board of Inquiry which had submitted its report to the Coast Guard headquarters in April this year.
Loshali was facing court martial proceedings from September after being indicted by the Board of Inquiry.
In his statement Loshali said that he had ordered blowing up an intruding Pakistani boat off Porbandar coast. The statement made by him contradicted the government’s claim that the crew in the Pakistani boat had themselves set the vessel ablaze, leading to an explosion that caused the vessel to sink.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the Coast Guard have consistently maintained that the occupants of the boat had self-destructed after being chased by Coast Guard ships.
