Patnaik takes charge as Delhi Police Commissioner

Senior IPS officer Amulya Kumar Patnaik Tuesday took charge as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, at a function held here at the police headquarters.

The 1985-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IPS officer succeeded Alok Kumar Verma, who has been appointed as the Director of Central Bureau of Investigation. Known for his clean image, Patnaik, before being appointed as Commissioner, was serving as Special Commissioner in the Delhi Police.

Talking to reporters after taking charge, the newly-appointed Commissioner said that ensuring women’s safety, preventing crime and improving perception about Police will be his priorities. He added he will ensure that senior officials are accessible to the public.

Earlier this morning, a farewell parade was organised for the outgoing Commissioner (Verma) at New Police Lines here.
