Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday said his government has initiated a new scheme “Pradan Mantri safe motherhood campaign” under which pregnant women would be to avail free medical check upto 9th of every month in all government health centres.
Sharing his thoughts in “Mann ki Baat” radio programme, Modi said the free medical checkups would be available to over 3 crore expecting mothers annually.”I am concerned about the health of our expecting mothers. We are faced with maternal or child mortality due to lack of healthcare facilities,” said the Prime Minister.
He said keeping in mind the challenges faced by pregnant women, the government has launched the special campaign under which the expecting mothers would be able to get their health parameters checked in the government health centres without spending a penny.
The Prime Minister said he appealed to the gynecologists of the country to provide their services once in a month for the health care of pregnant women.”Thousands of doctors have responded to my call positively. But we need the services of lakhs of doctors for the mission as our country is too vast,” he said.
The Prime Minister also cautioned the countrymen about the proper intake of antibiotics as haphazard doses of the medicine can prove to be counter productive.
