Former Punjab Public Service Commission Chairman Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu was awarded 7 years imprisonment apart from Rs one crore fine by a Patiala court Tuesday in a 13-year old cash-for-job scam in the state.
On Monday, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Patiala, Pushpinder Kaur held former Punjab Public Service Commission, Chairman Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu and three others guilty in the cash-for-job scam that was busted by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in 2002.
Three others including, the then PPSC Secretary Prithpal Singh, were also sentenced 2 to 4 years imprisonment by the court.
After unearthing the job scam by the state Vigilance Bureau in 2002, about 900 recruitments were cancelled by the then state Government. In March, 2002, Ex-chairman was nabbed red-handed from his residence in Chandigarh while accepting a bribe of Rs Five lakh from an excise and taxation inspector.
