Mr Gandhi is scheduled to address a gathering of businessmen and a youth conclave in Malaysia, apparently organised by Sam Pitroda on the lines of his recent engagements in the US.

The Congress chief is slated to go to Singapore to address students in some universities besides other engagements.

The visit by Rahul to Singapore and Malaysia is being seen as efforts to increase his outreach to the NRI community, after the success of his recent visits to the US and Bahrain.

UPA chairperson and Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is expected to hold fort in his absence. She held an informal meeting with some Congress floor leaders in Parliament to discuss the party’s strategy.

The visit comes close after his recent visit ot Italy , ahead of Holi, to give his “93-year-old Nani a surprise hug.”The Congress chief’s visit to Italy, however, got flak for him as it came in the wake of a major setback to the party in the northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
