Retired Air Chief Marshal Hrushikesh Moolgaonkar passed away in Pune Thursday . He was 95.
He was the recipient of Param Vishisht Seva medal and Mahaveer Chakra. Born in Mumbai on 14th August 1920, he put in his application for the Royal Indian Air Force. He got selected and commissioned on 30th November 1940 in the rank of an acting Pilot Officer.
On 1st February 1976, he was appointed Chief of Air Staff. During this tenure one of his major achievements was that of flight safety, where he personally implemented the new measures and brought down the accident rates.
After serving 38 years in the Indian Air Force, he retired on 31st August 1978. The Funeral will take place at Mukti dham crematorium Golibar Maidan in Pune tomorrow.
