Indian Open champion and fifth seeded PV Sindhu Wednesday entered the second round of the ongoing Singapore Open Superseries tournament.
In a thrilling encounter, the Rio Olympic silver-medalist defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 10-21, 21-15, 22-20.
Earlier in the month, Sindhu had clinched the Indian Open title however, she bowed out of the Malaysia Open. The Hyderabadi shuttler despite losing the first game, made a great comeback to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing tournament.
Sindhu lost the first game 10-21 however, she won the second game 21-15. In the third and final game, Sindhu once took a lead of 16-8 however, here Japanese opponent fought back to make the score 2014.
Okuhara then took six crucial points to make the score 20-20 but the Rio silver medalist’s experience came into play in the death moments as Sindhu bagged another couple of points to settle the issue in her favour 22-20. On the other hand, Rituparna Das suffered defeat in the women’s singles and bowed out of the tournament. In the Men’s Singles, Sai Praneeth entered the pre-quarterfinals after beating Denmark’s Emil Holst of Denmark 17-21, 21-7, 21-19.
