Singapore Open: PV Sindhu, Sai Praneeth enter quarters

Top Indian shuttlers P V Sindhu , B Sai Praneeth, Kidambi Srikanth and the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and B. Sumeeth Reddy entered the Quarter Finals of the Singapore Open Badminton Super-series tournament Thursday.

In Women’s singles, Sindhu defeated Indonesian World No.27 Fitriani Fitriani 19-21, 21-17, 21-8 in a pre-quarter final match. She will take on Spain’s Carolina Marin in the Quarter-final clash.

In Men’s Singles, B Sai Praneeth defeated China’s Qiao Bin 21-15, 21-23, 21-16. World No.30 Praneeth will clash with 8th seeded Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand next.

In another men’s singles match, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia in a thrilling match 18-21, 21-19, 22-20.

In Mixed Doubles, the pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and B. Sumeeth Reddy beat the Korean pair of Jae Hwan Kim and Lee So Hee 17-21, 21-17, 21-16. They will take on third seeded Chinese combo of Lu Kail and Huang Yaqiong next.

In women’s doubles, however, the Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N.Sikki Reddy lost to Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahasi of Japan 11-21, 21-19,12-21.
