Six Charred To Death In House In Cuttack

In a tragic incident six members of a family were charred to death in their rented accommodation at sector VII area of Cuttack Development Authority(CDA) here.

While four members, including a mother and her three children, were burnt to death last night, two others – the accused and his daughter succumbed to their burn injuries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here this morning.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Arora described the incident as most shocking and gruesome.

The police, he said, had registered a murder case in connection with the incident as per the dying declaration of one Anita Sahu, who succumbed to her injuries today, her father Anadi Sahu has sprinkled petrol and set all of them on fire. The DCP said the police has recovered a four page note from the house and it appears that the tragedy happened following a family dispute.

He said Anadi’s son Arun Sahu escaped the tragic incident as he was away at work during the time the incident took place. Preliminary investigation revealed that Anadi Sahu sprinkled petrol on his niece and her three children who had come to Cuttack to witness Baliyatra festival. Both Anadi and Anita sustained serious burn injuries in the incident and were rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.

The woman and her three children were found completely charred to death in one room of the house.
