The Union Sports Ministry on Monday recommended ace India shuttler PV Sindhu for the prestigious Padma Bhushan, which is the nation’s third highest civilian award.
Sindhu, who had bagged silver medal in the Rio Olympics, is in glorious form and recently became the first Indian to win the Korea Super Series title this year.
Before this, the world number four had also won the China Super Series Premier last year and the India Super Series and Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold title. However, she had to settle for the bronze medal at the World Championship after losing against Okuhara in the finals.
Earlier, former Team India’s World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was nominated for the Padma Bhushan award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
