Supreme Court Reserves Judgment t On Jayalalithaa’s Disproportionate Assets Case

The Supreme Court Wednesday reserved its judgement on whether the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP), G Bhavani Singh, appointed by the Tamil Nadu Government in the former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s appeal against her conviction, would continue or be removed from the disproportionate assets case.

After hearing extensive arguments from the DMK leader, K Anbazghan, who sought removal of SPP, Singh, and the defence, a three-judge bench reserved its order which is now likely to be pronounced on Monday.

The apex Court had earlier extended the bail plea of 66-year-old former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Chief, J.Jayalalithaa till May 12 in connection with the disproportionate assets (DA) case against her in which she was sentenced to four years jail.The Karnataka Special Court had sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years’ of rigorous imprisonment besides slapping a fine of Rs 100 crore on the AIADMK Chief.
