An under construction bridge over Jira river under the Biju Setu Yojana executed by the Rural Development Department of Odisha government Sunday collapsed injuring nearly six workers. The mishap took place when the workers were casting a slab on the bridge.
The injured persons were rushed to the Bargarh district head quarter hospital . The bridge at an estimated cost of over Rs 8 crore was constructed over Jira river at Jamdol Dubenpali under Bhaden block of Bargarh district in Western Odisha .
The Bargarh district collector had visited the hospital and inquired about their condition.
Meanwhile the Rural Development Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh suspended three Engineers including an Executive Engineer in-charge of the construction of the bridge and ordered a high level inquiry in to the incident.
It may be recalled that an under construction fly over in the state capital here was collapsed on September 10 last in which one person was killed and over ten persons injured.
The issue rocked the monsoon session of the state Assembly and the state government suspended two engineers. The police arrested the Managing Director and an Engineer of the Panda Infra projects which has taken the tender for constriction of the bridge. The two suspended engineer of the works department were also arrested in connection with the mishap. bm
