Yogi govt announces transportation subsidy, waiver of Mandi duty, cess for potato farmers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Tuesday announced couple of sops for potato farmers in the state by giving them financial benefit for their transportation and waiving Mandi duty and cess.

Announcing the sops in the state assembly here, Yogi Adityanath said his government was always pro potato farmers and after his government came to power, he announced the MSP for their produce and even announced to purchase one lakh metric tonne of potato. “But by that time all the potatoes have been stored in cold storage, hence there was very less purchase by the government,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government would give subsidy in transportation of potato up to 300 kms inside the state and exporting it to other states. “The potato farmers would get Rs 50 per km or 25 per cent of the total cost of actual transportation which ever is less,” he said.

The government has waived off Mandi duty of 2.5 per cent and 2 per cent cess on potato for which the government will have to forgo revenue to the tune of Rs 80 to Rs 100 crores. Mr Yogi said the sops would be available to the farmers till December 31 next and it will benefit around 6 lakh potato farmers of the state.
