ECI directs to set up at least one polling station in every Assembly constituency, to be managed by polling teams consisting of youngest employees

New Delhi, October 25

Focusing on the turnout of young voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed to set up at least one polling station per district to be managed by polling teams consisting of the youngest available eligible employees of that district. In five poll-bound States – Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana, around 2.6 percent are young electors.

The Commission has placed focus on the enrolment of young voters, especially those who attained the qualifying age on the 1st of October this year.

For this purpose, ECI also has an Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) which is a platform to engage school students through interesting activities and hands-on experience. This is done to sensitise them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting.

ELCs are also present in colleges and rural communities. Activities and games are designed to stimulate and motivate students, provoking them to think and ask questions. These tasks are carefully designed to impart specific learning which will help the students become Empowered Voters. Through ELCs, ECI aims to strengthen the culture of electoral participation among young and future voters.
