PM Modi flags off India’s first Namo Bharat RRTS, dedicates Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor in Meerut

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, this afternoon. Mr Modi also undertook Metro Ride till Meerut South Station and interacted with students and passengers. The Prime Minister dedicated the entire 82 Km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation and inaugurated the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
With a design speed of 180 km per hour, Namo Bharat is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, connecting major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut with Delhi at a faster pace.
The Prime Minister also flagged off Meerut Metro services between Meerut South and Modipuram, operating on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat, in a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. Meerut Metro is India’s fastest metro system with a maximum operational speed of around 120 kilometres per hour. It covers the entire stretch in just 30 minutes.
Later, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated and dedicated to the nation various development projects worth around 12,930 crore rupees in Meerut. Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said the projects launched today will give thrust to Viksit Uttar Pradesh and Viksit Bharat. He stressed that today’s programme highlights the work culture of the BJP’s double-engine growth. He added that his government remains committed to completing all projects in a time-bound manner.
Recalling his special bond with Meerut, the Prime Minister noted that his national election campaigns in 2014, 2019, and 2024 all began from this revolutionary land. He thanked the farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs of the region for their consistent blessings. The Prime Minister noted that before 2014, metro services reached only 5 cities, but now metros are running in more than 25 cities, making India the third-largest network in the world.
Describing Uttar Pradesh as a land of labour and creation, the Prime Minister said that the state’s farmers and artisans are successfully realizing the mantra of heritage and development. He noted that as India’s global strength grows, the developed nations are eager to sign trade agreements to tap into India’s youth power. He highlighted that today, the world views India as a powerhouse capable of solving 21st-century challenges.
Prime Minister Modi said that Uttar Pradesh is being transformed into a manufacturing hub, and recently, the foundation for the State’s first semiconductor factory was laid. He emphasised that a developed Uttar Pradesh is essential for a developed India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized the Congress for the protest by its youth wing at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He said, on one hand, the countrymen are working day and night to make India developed, but there are some political parties within the country that are unable to digest India’s success.
Speaking on the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the projects launched today will greatly benefit the people of the state.
