Tamil Nadu: TVK Chief VIjay meets Governor and stakes claim to form government

In Tamil Nādu, TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay met Governor Vishwanath Arlekar and staked a claim to form the new Government in the state. The 51-year-old leader met the Governor along with senior leaders of the Party, K.A. Sengottaiyan, N.Anand, CTR. Nirmal Kumar, former IRS officer, Arun Raj, Aadhav Arjuna. TVK won 108 seats. As Mr Vijay contested and won from two seats, he has to resign from one seat.
Earlier today, Congress leader Girish Chodankar and the other leaders of the party met TVK chief and offered the letter of support of five MLAs.
In a related development, VCK Chief Thol. Thirumavalavan has said that his party will take a decision on the invitation of TVK to join their alliance. Presently, VCK is in alliance with the DMK. The party has two MLAs.
Earlier, the Governor had told the media that he would take the final decision to call the single largest party, the TVK to form the Government in a day or two.
In another development, a section of the elected MLAs from the AIADMK wants the party leadership to support TVK.
A rift is growing between long-time alliance partners DMK and Congress over support for TVK. DMK leader and spokesperson Kanimozhi NVN Somu said that if the Congress has done this, it is a big stab to the DMK. She added that the DMK has stood with the Congress in difficult times.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar reached Chennai from Kerala this afternoon.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is serving as the Governor of Kerala since January 2025. He took additional charge as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on 12 March 2026.
