Maharashtra: SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal injured in attack

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Sukhbir Singh Badal is in a stable condition and out of danger. He is recovering in a private hospital in Maharashtra’s Nanded district after suffering a hand injury due to a knife attack this afternoon.

Mr. Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur were visiting Gurudwara Mata Sahib Devaan Ji at Mugat in Nanded around 1.45 PM, when a man tried to stab Mr. Badal with a kirpan or a curved dagger. However, police officials quickly intervened and arrested the attacker.

According to Nanded District Collector Dr. Rahul Kardile, Mr. Badal and a PSI from the Special Protection Unit sustained minor injuries on their hand and are currently stable.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sought detailed information from the Nanded Superintendent of Police and ordered an investigation into the attack. He also spoke to Mr. Badal to enquire about his health. Condemning the shocking incident, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said a thorough investigation will be made and the guilty will face stringent action.
