Jantar Mantar de-notified as designated protest site; Delhi Police names three alternatives

Delhi Police has designated three new venues for protests and demonstrations: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi. In an order, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar announced that Jantar Mantar has been de-notified as a designated protest site.

The Union Home Ministry had constituted a committee to identify suitable alternative venues to ensure citizens’ right to organise protests and demonstrations. Based on the committee’s recommendations, Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated protest sites.

Delhi Police said detailed and revised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for organising protests and demonstrations at the three newly designated venues would be issued separately.
